This is my family during a classic 90s style photo shoot and this week my parents celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary. Because of this (and mothers day) I wanted to express my appreciation for them. So these are 31 things I’ve learned from my parents.

  1. Do whatever you want to do.
  2. Don’t discriminate against others.
  3. Travel around your own country before the world.
  4. Stand up for what you believe in.
  5. Spend time and money to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.
  6. Be nice to people.
  7. Say hello to strangers when you’re on a walk.
  8. You don’t have to be the smartest person to succeed.
  9. People with a disability deserve the same rights.
  10. Family is the most important thing.
  11. Always remember where you come from.
  12. Explore new places.
  13. Believe in yourself.
  14. Don’t compare your life to others.
  15. Do things in your own time.
  16. Trust your instincts.
  17. Put time into ensuring you have a good relationship with your sister.
  18. If you are having troubles, talk about it.
  19. Respect everyone no matter how different they are to you.
  20. Think before you speak.
  21. Don’t be ashamed for being shy/sensitive.
  22. Board/card games should always be part of your life.
  23. Take snacks when going out for the whole day.
  24. You’re lucky to live in Australia.
  25. Listen to The Beatles.
  26. Travelling = personal growth.
  27. You should give back to those who aren’t as fortunate as you.
  28. Always work hard, but take the time to do nothing.
  29. Be yourself.
  30. Don’t rush anything.
  31. How to treat your loved ones.
