For a little while now I have been listening to podcasts. And I have found them to be the perfect companion on long drives or my walks. They are inspiring, entertaining and interesting. Here are the ones I listen to on a regular basis…
MAMAMIA OUT LOUD (Australia)
Without fail every Thursday on my way to play netball I listen to this Australian podcast. Firstly did you know that Mamamia is the only women’s podcast network in the world? Very cool. Each week involves 3 women (crossing 3 generations) talking about topics that matter to them and other women that week. Each show is humorous, honest and educational.
THE MUSTARDS (Sweden/Germany)
Recently my favorite youtuber Jenny Mustard and her partner David started a podcast. They are a swedish duo based in Berlin. The podcast is similar to youtube but more raw, honest and they obviously talk for a lot longer (which is a win, they have a lot to say.) Topics include minimalism, travel, love, food, health, interior design, movies, politics, and fashion. My favorite part is often the “David’s semi funny anecdote about people we don’t know” segment.
SLOW HOME PODCAST WITH BROOKE MC’ALARY (Australia)
The main reason why I started listening to podcasts is because I wanted to explore the concept of minimalism. There is heaps of inspiration to find on the topic. And to get you started may I suggest this one. Brooke is the host, and her husband Ben makes weekly appearances. As do many special guests. Their main objective is to inspire you to live a slower, simpler life and boy have they succeeded with me.
ETU – EARTH TO US (United States)
During my transition to veganism I mainly watched youtube videos to get educated and inspired. Now that I’ve been vegan for the past year (and feel part of the community) I’ve started listening to a couple of podcasts relating to vegan living. The first one is 2 young ladies named Evan and Hannah. Both of whom have been vegan for a long time and therefore have a lot to say on the topic. They also discuss social justice, personal growth, art, food, and creativity.
LIVE PLANTED (United States)
The other podcast that centres around topics to do with veganism is this one hosted by Alyssa. Most of the episodes on this podcast are interviews with other vegans including High Carb Hannah, Lauren Toyota (and other leaders in the online vegan movement. Alyssa also answers questions related to veganism, and is very generous with her advice. She talks about veganism from every angle.
STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW (United States)
The final podcast on this list is quite different compared to the others. If you like to know useless or useful information (defends how you want to look at it) or like to boast to your friends about knowing more about something than they do (no judgement), this is the podcast for you. Recent titles include ‘How Disco Works’, ‘A Dry Look At Toilet Paper’ and ‘Why can’t we find Amelia Earhart’. It’s fun and often very interesting.
OPTIMAL LIVING DAILY (United States)
Like learning new things and hearing new perspectives? A lot of inspiration and idea can be found on blogs. But sometimes there just isn’t enough time to read all the blog posts you want. That’s where OLD comes in. Justin Malik reads blog posts to you. Every day he reads a blog post based around topics like minimalism, happiness, self improvement etc. Each session is quick, so it’s the perfect podcast to listen to on your commute.
Special Mention to: Little Gold Men, Hey, Girl, Part Time Genius and Stuff Mom Never Told You
What are your favorite podcasts? I’m always looking to find new ones.
This blog is where I (Emily Simpson) express my thoughts, share the things that bring me joy, give awareness to causes that are dear to me and try to inspire others
to live simply and consciously.
